Marlins Triumph Over Astros 6-4, Ending Losing Streak

Xavier Edwards showcased his hitting prowess, going 4 for 5, including a double, as the Miami Marlins defeated the Houston Astros 6-4 on Wednesday. This victory marked the end of a seven-game losing streak against the Astros.

Janson Junk (6-2) took the mound, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out two and walking two over five innings. Since joining the rotation on June 20, the Marlins have thrived with an 8-2 record in Junk's ten starts.

Lake Bachar secured his second save by pitching a flawless ninth inning.

The Marlins struck early, with Liam Hicks, Otto Lopez, and Heriberto Hernández each contributing an RBI single off Astros starter Spencer Arrighetti (1-2) in the first inning, establishing a 3-2 lead that they maintained throughout the game.

In the second inning, Edwards doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Agustín Ramírez. Hernández extended the lead to 5-2 with a homer in the third.

Houston's Christian Walker responded with a two-run homer in the first. Mauricio Dubón doubled and scored on Carlos Correa's subsequent double in the fifth, while Victor Caratini added an RBI double in the sixth to keep the Astros competitive.

Pauley’s solo home run in the fifth pushed Miami's lead to 6-3.

In a tense moment during the eighth inning, pinch-hitter Jeremy Peña loaded the bases with one out for Houston. However, Calvin Faucher managed to induce Cam Smith into a forceout at home and got Dubón to pop out, thwarting the Astros' rally and preserving Miami's 6-4 advantage.

Since June 13, the Marlins (56-57) have been on a roll, boasting a 31-16 record and an impressive series performance of 11-3-1.

Looking ahead, Astros RHP Hunter Brown (9-5, 2.47 ERA) is set to start Friday night at Yankee Stadium against rookie Cam Schlittler (1-2, 4.58). Meanwhile, Marlins RHP Eury Pérez (4-3, 2.70 ERA) is scheduled to pitch Thursday against Atlanta, although the Braves have yet to announce their starter.
