Minnesota Wild Deal Freddy Gaudreau to Seattle Kraken

Jun 27 2025

The Minnesota Wild executed a trade on Thursday, sending veteran center Freddy Gaudreau to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.

At 32 years old, Gaudreau has three years left on his contract, which carries an annual average value of $2.1 million. In the 2024-25 season, he recorded 18 goals and 19 assists, participating in all 82 regular-season games. However, he did not register any points during six playoff appearances with Minnesota.

The fourth-round pick acquired from the Kraken is the 102nd overall in the upcoming draft, adding to the Wild's total of five selections this weekend. Notably, their only top-100 pick is No. 52 in the second round.

Over his eight seasons in the NHL, Gaudreau has accumulated 152 points across 410 games, having played for Nashville and Pittsburgh prior to his time with Minnesota.

"Frederick's a versatile skater who plays a strong two-way game," said Kraken general manager Jason Botterill. "He gives us depth down the middle and has the ability to produce offensively. He's a player that can be trusted on the defensive side of the puck, especially on the penalty kill. We're excited to welcome him to the team."

This trade follows Utah's acquisition of two-time 25-goal scorer JJ Peterka from Buffalo earlier on Thursday, in exchange for forward Josh Doan and defenseman Michael Kesselring. With the first round of the draft set for Friday night and Rounds 2-7 scheduled for Saturday, further trades are anticipated.
