Orioles Dominate Angels, Complete Series Sweep with 11-2 Victory

Jun 15 2025

In a decisive display of power, the Baltimore Orioles overwhelmed the Los Angeles Angels with an 11-2 victory on Sunday, capping off a three-game sweep. Gary Sánchez highlighted the game with a grand slam in the seventh inning, while Ramón Urías and Jordan Westburg also contributed with home runs.

Cade Povich, who earned his first win since April 24, played a pivotal role in the Orioles' success. This victory marks Baltimore's third sweep of the season, all occurring within their last five series. With a record of 30-40, the Orioles find themselves within ten games of .500 for the first time since they were 15-25.

Nolan Schanuel provided the lone bright spot for Los Angeles, hitting a solo home run in the first inning. However, it was not enough to shift the momentum in favor of the Angels.

The turning point came in the fourth inning when Ramón Laureano's RBI single gave Baltimore a 3-2 lead against left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (2-6). The Orioles continued to apply pressure, chasing Kikuchi from the mound in the sixth inning. After Sánchez's two-out single, Cedric Mullins' bunt single down the right-field line led to an error that allowed Sánchez to score. Coby Mayo then added an RBI double to extend the lead.

Sánchez's grand slam, his sixth career slam and first since August 15, 2023, broke the game wide open. He connected with Connor Brogdon's two-out fastball, marking Baltimore's third grand slam of the season and their first since May 14.

Povich (2-5) made a notable appearance out of the bullpen for the first time in his career, delivering 3 2/3 shutout innings after taking over from opener Scott Blewett.

Urías responded to Schanuel's early homer with a two-run shot later in the first inning, while Westburg added a two-run homer in the eighth to further solidify Baltimore's lead.

Kikuchi struggled on the mound, allowing a season-high five runs—three of which were earned—while striking out ten batters over 5 2/3 innings.

In a critical moment during the seventh inning, Orioles reliever Seranthony Domínguez entered with the bases loaded and one out. He struck out Jo Adell and pinch hitter LaMonte Wade Jr., preserving Baltimore's 5-2 lead.

With this victory, Baltimore improved its record to 20-6 against the Angels since 2022, including an impressive 5-1 this season. Looking ahead, Los Angeles RHP José Soriano (4-5, 3.86 ERA) is set to start the opener of a four-game series against the New York Yankees on Monday. Meanwhile, Baltimore has yet to announce its pitching plans for their upcoming four-game series at Tampa Bay starting Monday.
