Phillies vs. Padres Game Postponed Due to Severe Weather
The Philadelphia Phillies' matchup against the San Diego Padres at Citizens Bank Park was called off Tuesday evening due to severe weather conditions affecting the area.
This game will be rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader on Wednesday, with the first game set to start at 1:05 p.m. and the second at 6:15 p.m.
Fans holding tickets for the originally scheduled game can use them for the later contest on Wednesday night.
Originally, the game was slated to begin at 6:15 p.m., coinciding with a postgame fireworks display. The Phillies confirmed that a fireworks celebration will still take place following Wednesday's nightcap.
Due to the doubleheader, the team announced the cancellation of the Nemours Children's Health Kids Run the Bases promotion that was planned for the 1:05 p.m. game.
A NEXT Weather Alert remains in effect for the Philadelphia region, with a severe thunderstorm watch issued by the National Weather Service until 9 p.m. Additionally, a flash flood watch is currently active.
In their previous encounter on Monday night, the Phillies secured a victory over the Padres, with Zack Wheeler delivering an impressive performance, striking out ten batters over eight shutout innings. The final score was 4-0 in favor of Philadelphia.
Returning from a right wrist injury that sidelined him for over 20 games, Bryce Harper went 0 for 2 with a walk in his comeback game.
Prior to Monday's game, Harper expressed optimism about his recovery, stating that his wrist felt "way better" compared to when he was placed on the injured list on June 6.
"I didn't think that I was going to take any other steps forward in terms of feeling better or anything like that," Harper remarked. "I thought we were kind of at a standstill of it feeling the same the last couple of days. And from BP to live and things like that, it kind of gave us the same results each day. So I thought today was a good one."
