Republicans Dominate Democrats in Annual Congressional Baseball Game

Jun 12 2025

Republican lawmakers showcased their athletic prowess Wednesday, decisively defeating their Democratic counterparts 13-2 at the annual Congressional Baseball Game held in Washington, DC.

This victory marks the fifth consecutive year that Republicans have triumphed over their political rivals on the baseball field, further solidifying their dominance in this friendly yet competitive tradition.

Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.), who made a remarkable comeback after suffering serious injuries from a ladder fall two years ago, took to the mound for five innings, striking out seven Democrats in a stellar performance.

“I am going to take an ice bath tomorrow,” Steube humorously remarked following the game, reflecting on the physical demands of the match.

The MVP title was awarded to Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas), who made headlines with a spectacular diving catch that ended the first inning after the Democrats had loaded the bases. This impressive play quickly gained traction on social media.

“Proud to have been selected MVP for this year’s Congressional Baseball Game!” Pfluger shared on X. “Couldn’t have asked for a better support team here in DC! Another huge win for Republicans.”

In contrast to last year’s event, which was marred by protests and disruptions, this year’s game unfolded with a more subdued atmosphere. Last year, anti-Israel demonstrators interrupted the national anthem, and climate change activists stormed the field.

During the game, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made an appearance in the Democratic dugout, receiving enthusiastic cheers from her supporters.

With over 30,000 tickets sold, the event raised an impressive $2.8 million for various charities, underscoring its significance beyond just a sporting event.

“Team GOP takes the WIN!! 🏆🇺🇸 Proud to take the field with my Republican colleagues tonight and bring home the win,” House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) posted on X. “We raised $2.8 million for local charities. We’re not tired of winning!”

Scalise himself has a poignant history with this game; in 2017, he was shot by a left-wing extremist during a GOP practice session in Alexandria, Va., just one day before that year’s game.

Overall, Republicans now lead the series against Democrats with a record of 47-42, further establishing their edge in this annual competition.
