Robbie Ray's Complete Game Leads Giants to Victory Over D-Backs
Robbie Ray delivered a masterful performance on the mound, throwing his first complete game since 2017, as the San Francisco Giants triumphed over the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 on Thursday night.
With this victory, the Giants managed to split the four-game series, clinching wins in the final two matchups.
Ray (9-3) showcased his dominance by retiring the first 12 batters he faced. However, Eugenio Suarez broke through in the fifth inning, launching his 27th home run of the season, narrowing San Francisco's lead to 4-1. The veteran left-hander completed nine innings with just 102 pitches, allowing three hits—two of which were solo home runs—while walking one and striking out seven.
Previously a member of the D-backs from 2015 to 2020, Ray was traded to Toronto, where he earned the AL Cy Young Award in 2021.
The Giants established an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to Heliot Ramos' run-scoring double and a sacrifice fly from Jung Hoo Lee. Mike Yastrzemski and Willy Adames each contributed three hits, while Ramos and Andrew Knizner added two hits apiece.
On the other side, Arizona's Brandon Pfaadt (8-6) struggled, surrendering four runs on six hits and two walks over six innings, despite striking out eight batters.
In the ninth inning, Ketel Marte hit a solo homer, marking his 19th of the season.

A standout moment came in the seventh when third baseman Brett Wisely executed a remarkable defensive play, diving for a grounder and quickly recovering to throw out Blaze Alexander at first base.
Ray's complete game marked only the second of his career and was notable as the first for the Giants this season, contributing to a total of 19 complete games across MLB.
Looking ahead, the Giants will head to Sacramento for a three-game series starting Friday, with RHP Justin Verlander (0-5, 4.26 ERA) set to face Athletics LHP JP Sears (6-7, 5.09).
Meanwhile, the D-backs will host a three-game series at home, sending LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (3-4, 5.13) to the mound against LHP Kris Bubic (6-6, 2.25) from the Kansas City Royals.
