Rocket Classic Community Day Brings Families Together for Fun

Jun 25 2025

“A bad day at the golf course beats a good day at work,” perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the Rocket Classic 2025 Community Day held on Wednesday.

This free, family-friendly event kicked off the 7th annual Rocket Classic at the Detroit Golf Club, part of the PGA Tour running through Sunday. Anticipation is high, with thousands expected to visit the course during this local sporting highlight.

Among the attendees was Frank Fontaine, who brought his family along for a day filled with friendly competition. The Northville, Michigan natives—Frank, Dean, Anna, Jay, and Katie—share a passion for golf.

“I can hit far,” Frank boasted, claiming a driving range of about 125 yards.

When asked if he hits farther than Frank, Dean confidently replied yes. In a playful exchange, Frank chimed in from behind, “just a little,” prompting Dean to retort with a firm “no,” showcasing their sibling rivalry.

Wednesday's schedule also featured a Pro-Am event with PGA Tour professionals alongside local celebrities and amateurs. A youth clinic was held in the afternoon, further engaging the community.

“I love being able to come to the family event community day, get close to the golfers and just enjoy time,” said Jay Fontaine. He added that they have a friend, Seth Anderson, participating in the tournament. “We’re going to make fun of him. We made him some cards featuring his state championship trophy photo to pass out like he’s a celebrity. It’s a great time.”

Jordan Burrows, a Hoosier with a love for the Midwest, expressed his enthusiasm for joining CBS News Detroit. He looks forward to anchoring weekend mornings and reporting throughout the week.
