Travis Kelce Embraces Sideline Drama with Coach Andy Reid
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce openly expressed his fondness for a bit of drama on the field, even when it involves his head coach, Andy Reid.
During a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast, co-hosted with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis, who turns 35 on October 5, responded to Jason’s playful jab about his Libra traits, particularly the supposed aversion to conflict. “Dislike conflict is not accurate,” he stated. “I enjoy a little bit of conflict every now and then.”
This comment followed a viral moment from the Chiefs' game against the New York Giants on September 21, where Kelce was seen expressing frustration towards Reid on the sidelines as the offense struggled.
Despite the speculation surrounding the incident, Travis clarified that it stemmed from competitiveness rather than any personal issues. “I love that guy, man,” he told local media on September 26. “There’s nothing outside of this building that’s going to make me feel any different way. We know exactly each other’s intentions.”
Kelce praised Reid’s coaching style, noting how it pushes him to excel. “I think what Coach Reid does best is he challenges guys to be at their best, and I love that about him,” he remarked. “It definitely helped me take my game to another level that game.”
The sideline exchange occurred during a high-stakes Sunday Night Football matchup, where cameras captured Kelce's animated reaction as the Chiefs’ offense faltered.
Reid later addressed the incident with humor during a press conference on September 22. “The question came up yesterday about Travis and the intensity and all that,” he said. “Is he frustrated or not frustrated? Well, he’s seen how the offense works. So when things aren’t going the right way, he’s very aware of that.”

The veteran coach emphasized that Kelce’s emotional investment is a key part of his success. “I love Travis’ passion, man,” Reid added. “Within reason, he knows when to back off the pedal and knows when to push it, too.”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes supported Kelce’s fiery demeanor, stating in postgame comments on September 21, “He’s a guy that loves it. That’s what’s made him so great. I know they love each other. That’s what you want out of the greats.”
This isn’t the first instance of tension between Kelce and Reid; during Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024, Travis had a similar moment when he shoved Reid after being taken off the field, later apologizing for his emotional response.
Now, embracing his reputation for intensity, Travis declared on his podcast, “I go towards the conflict.” The Chiefs are set to face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, October 6.
