49ers Acquire Bryce Huff from Eagles in Draft Pick Trade

May 30 2025

The San Francisco 49ers have secured a trade for pass rusher Bryce Huff from the Philadelphia Eagles, following a contract restructuring by Huff. This agreement marks a significant move for the 49ers as they bolster their defensive lineup.

A source with knowledge of the negotiations confirmed on Friday that the deal was reached after Huff adjusted his contract terms. Due to salary cap implications for the Eagles, the trade will not be finalized until after June 1, necessitating anonymity for the source.

ESPN reported that the 49ers will send a Day 3 draft pick to Philadelphia in exchange for Huff. Originally set to earn $17 million in fully guaranteed money this season, Huff's revised contract sees the Eagles responsible for $9.05 million, while San Francisco will cover the remaining $7.95 million.

This acquisition provides the 49ers with a valuable edge rusher to complement star Nick Bosa and reunites Huff with Robert Saleh, who coached him during his standout season with the New York Jets in 2023.

In that breakout year, Huff recorded 10 sacks and generated 67 pressures on just 334 pass rush snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. His performance earned him a lucrative three-year, $51.1 million contract with the Eagles.

However, his time in Philadelphia was less productive, as he managed only 2.5 sacks and 23 pressures while missing five games due to a wrist injury. Notably, he was also a healthy scratch during the Super Bowl.

Huff entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Jets in 2020 after playing at Memphis. Over his first three seasons, he accumulated 7.5 sacks before his impressive campaign under Saleh.

The 49ers identified a pressing need for additional pass-rushing talent after releasing Leonard Floyd earlier this offseason. Although they drafted Mykel Williams with the 11th overall pick in April, they lacked another defensive end with a track record of at least five sacks in a season. Yetur Gross-Matos remains the only other edge rusher on the roster with significant experience, having recorded four sacks last season in his debut with San Francisco.
