49ers Acquire Defensive Lineman Bryce Huff from Eagles

Jun 02 2025

The San Francisco 49ers have secured defensive lineman Bryce Huff from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a mid-round draft pick, as confirmed by both teams on Monday.

Initial reports surfaced on Friday, indicating that the deal was nearing completion after Huff restructured his contract with Philadelphia. The 26-year-old was originally set to earn $17 million in guaranteed money this season. Under the new agreement, the Eagles will cover $9.05 million, while the 49ers will assume the remaining $7.95 million, as detailed by sources.

However, the trade hinges on Huff successfully passing a physical examination, according to the 49ers.

This transaction marks a reunion for Huff and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who coached him during his breakout season with the New York Jets in 2023. Huff's addition is expected to bolster San Francisco's pass rush alongside star defensive end Nick Bosa.

In his standout 2023 season, Huff recorded an impressive 10 sacks and generated 67 pressures over just 334 pass rush snaps, as reported by Pro Football Focus. Following that performance, he signed a three-year contract worth $51.1 million with the Eagles. Unfortunately, his subsequent season fell short of expectations, yielding only 2.5 sacks and 23 pressures. Additionally, he missed five games due to a wrist injury and was inactive during the Super Bowl.

The 49ers are actively enhancing their defensive line after parting ways with key players such as Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd, and Maliek Collins. In last month’s NFL Draft, San Francisco selected Mykel Williams with their first-round pick (11th overall), leaving Yetur Gross-Matos as the only other experienced pass rusher on the roster.
