Cubs Dominate Tigers with Five Home Runs in 6-1 Victory
On Saturday afternoon, the Chicago Cubs showcased their power at the plate, launching five home runs in a commanding 6-1 victory against the Detroit Tigers.
Before a packed house of 41,334 at Comerica Park, a significant portion of the crowd cheered for the Cubs. Seiya Suzuki led the charge with two home runs, while Michael Busch, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Matt Shaw also contributed to the offensive onslaught. With this win, the Cubs improved their record to 40-24, while the Tigers fell to 42-24.
Jameson Taillon delivered a stellar performance on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk over seven innings. His recent form has been impressive, boasting a 4-0 record with a 1.68 ERA in his last four starts.
Suzuki opened the scoring with a first-inning homer off Tigers opener Tyler Holton. Busch extended the lead to 3-0 with a powerful shot to right field in the fifth inning, although the Tigers managed to respond with a run in the same frame.
Zach McKinstry led off for Detroit with his fifth triple of the season, ranking third in the majors. He scored on a ground ball from Jake Rogers, narrowly beating Shaw's throw to home plate.
In a milestone moment, Crow-Armstrong hit a solo homer in the seventh inning during his 200th career game, followed by Shaw's solo shot later in the same inning. Suzuki capped off the scoring with another homer in the eighth, bringing the lead to 6-1.
Despite trailing early, the Tigers had opportunities in both the third and fourth innings with leadoff hitters reaching first base. However, Taillon effectively neutralized any threats, preventing runners from advancing into scoring position.
In his first 200 games, Crow-Armstrong has recorded 27 home runs, 102 RBIs, and 50 stolen bases. This achievement places him among an elite group of players who have reached 25 home runs, 100 RBIs, and 50 stolen bases early in their careers—joining Mike Trout and Mitchell Page.
The series concludes on Sunday afternoon as RHP Jack Flaherty (4-6, 3.72) is set to face RHP Cade Horton (3-0, 4.21).
