Evan Carter's Game-Winning Slide Secures Rangers' Victory Over Orioles

Jun 25 2025

Evan Carter's slide across home plate in the top of the 10th inning clinched a 6-5 victory for the Texas Rangers against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.

As the automatic runner, Carter advanced to third base after Seranthony Domínguez (2-2) delivered a wild pitch with one out. Sam Haggerty's ground ball to second baseman Jackson Holliday led to a tense moment; initially ruled out at home, Carter was ultimately deemed safe following a replay review.

In relief, Luke Jackson (2-4) secured the win for Texas, while Robert Garcia closed out the game, earning his sixth save by keeping the Orioles scoreless in the bottom of the 10th. Despite Cedric Mullins advancing the automatic runner to third with a sacrifice, Garcia struck out both Dylan Carlson and Jackson Holliday to seal the game.

The Orioles staged a comeback in the seventh inning, with Gary Sanchez, Ramón Urías, and Ryan O'Hearn hitting consecutive home runs off reliever Chris Martin, transforming a 4-0 deficit into a 5-4 lead. However, Baltimore's momentum faltered as they could not maintain their advantage.

Texas starter Jacob Latz was impressive, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning and setting personal records for innings pitched and total pitches. His bid for history ended when Ramon Laureano connected for a leadoff single. Following a walk to the next batter, Latz was replaced by Martin.

Martin's outing proved disastrous; Sanchez's three-run homer narrowed Texas's lead to one run, followed by Urías's drive that barely cleared the right-field wall. O'Hearn's subsequent shot to right-center put the Orioles ahead.

The Rangers managed to tie the game at five in the eighth inning. Pinch-hitter Sam Haggerty walked, stole second and third base, and scored on a sacrifice fly from pinch-hitter Jonah Heim.

Texas initially took control of the game with a three-run fourth inning against Orioles starter Charlie Morton. Adolis García extended the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single in the seventh.

Game time temperature reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) for the second consecutive night in Baltimore.

Behind the plate, Sanchez struggled as Texas successfully stole five bases, with Domínguez charged for two wild pitches—one of which allowed the final run to score without a hit.

Notably, Martin became only the fourth reliever in live ball era history to face exactly three batters and allow home runs to all of them; Kaleb Ort of Houston was the last to achieve this dubious distinction last year against San Diego.

Looking ahead, Jacob deGrom (7-2) is set to start for Texas against Brandon Young (0-1) in Wednesday night's series finale.
