Giants' Matt Chapman Lands on Injured List with Hand Inflammation
San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to inflammation in his right hand, following an injury sustained during a game against the Atlanta Braves.
This decision is retroactive to Monday, allowing Chapman to potentially return sooner if his recovery progresses well.
The injury occurred in the eighth inning of Sunday’s game when Chapman slid back into first base during a pickoff attempt, a move that ultimately led to his current situation.
At 32 years old, Chapman has been a key player for the Giants, currently holding a batting average of .243 along with 12 home runs and 30 RBIs across 65 games this season. He joined the Giants last September, signing a lucrative six-year contract worth $151 million that extends through 2030.
Notably, he contributed significantly to the team’s recent success, hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning during a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Braves on Saturday.
In response to Chapman’s injury, the Giants have recalled infielder Christian Koss from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of their series opener against Colorado.
The Giants are currently enjoying a five-game winning streak, with each victory coming by a single run. Remarkably, they have played seven consecutive one-run games, showcasing their resilience and competitive spirit.
