Marlins Secure Fifth Straight Win with 9-8 Victory Over Diamondbacks
In a high-scoring affair, the Miami Marlins edged the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-8 on Friday night, propelled by Otto Lopez's impressive performance, which included a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Kyle Stowers contributed significantly as well, hitting a go-ahead solo homer in the sixth inning.
This victory marks the Marlins' fifth consecutive win, following a decisive 12-5 triumph over the San Francisco Giants just a day prior. With this latest success, Miami has now claimed six victories in their last seven games, showcasing a strong offensive lineup.
Lopez's standout night featured three hits, while Stowers added an RBI double to his tally. Heriberto Hernández also made his mark with a solo home run, further solidifying the Marlins' offensive prowess.
In the fourth inning, Lopez, Agustín Ramírez, and Stowers executed a series of two-out doubles against Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly (7-4), allowing Miami to seize a 2-1 lead. The Marlins capitalized on their opportunities, demonstrating their ability to perform under pressure.
Starting pitcher Eury Pérez faced challenges early on, surrendering a leadoff homer to Jake McCarthy and issuing a walk before Ronny Henriquez (4-1) took over with one out in the fifth. Henriquez allowed one run during his 1 1/3 innings of work, courtesy of a homer from Geraldo Perdomo.
McCarthy's contributions were notable; he walked to start the third inning, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch by Pérez, and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Alek Thomas. McCarthy continued to impact the game with another leadoff homer in the fifth inning. Thomas added to the Diamondbacks' tally with a solo shot in the seventh, while Pavin Smith capped off their scoring with an RBI single in the ninth.

Stowers' leadoff homer in the sixth chased Kelly from the mound, leading to Juan Morillo's entrance. Connor Norby followed with a two-out single and scored on a triple by Javier Sanoja, extending Miami's lead to 6-4.
The Marlins entered this matchup leading the National League in hits (215), batting average (.268), and doubles (44) for the month. They finished the game with 13 hits, marking their fifth consecutive game with at least ten hits—a feat unmatched in Major League Baseball this June.
Looking ahead, Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara (4-8, 6.69 ERA) is set to take the mound on Saturday against Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (8-5, 5.49), as Miami aims to extend their winning streak.
