Storm Halts Lynx's Winning Streak with 94-84 Victory
Nneka Ogwumike led the charge for the Seattle Storm with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Erica Wheeler contributed 20 points and six assists, as the Storm triumphed over the Minnesota Lynx 94-84 on Wednesday night, effectively ending Minnesota's impressive nine-game winning streak.
In a pivotal moment, an official review nullified a basket for Minnesota due to a shot-clock violation. This opened the door for Skylar Diggins, who responded with a crucial 3-pointer, propelling Seattle (6-4) to an 83-79 lead. Diggins also assisted Ezi Magbegor for a basket that extended the lead to six points.
With just over a minute remaining, Kayla McBride hit a 3-pointer from the wing, narrowing the gap for Minnesota (9-1) to 85-84. However, Wheeler quickly countered with a 3-pointer of her own. Following a missed layup by Alanna Smith, Wheeler sealed the game with two free throws with only 25 seconds left on the clock.
Diggins finished the night with 18 points and six assists, while Magbegor added 13 points and eight rebounds. Gabby Williams also made a significant impact, recording 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.
Napheesa Collier was a standout for Minnesota, scoring 25 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. McBride supported her team with 19 points, shooting 5 of 11 from beyond the arc.
The Lynx surged ahead at the start of the third quarter with an 11-1 run, establishing a 60-49 lead. However, Seattle responded fiercely, scoring 26 of the next 32 points to take control of the game with a 75-66 advantage early in the fourth quarter.
