Ed Kelce disclosed that his son, Travis, and Taylor Swift connected with him and Donna Kelce via FaceTime shortly after their engagement announcement.
“They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew,” Ed, 74, shared with a local news outlet on August 26, just hours following the couple's engagement reveal. “So, to see them together is great.” (Notably, Ed and Donna, 72, had announced their divorce in 2024 after 25 years of marriage.)
When a FaceTime request illuminated his phone, Ed sensed significant news was imminent. “I was at a [Philadelphia] Eagles practice that had 60,000 people at a public practice two weeks ago on a Sunday night,” he recounted. “As soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him; I knew what they were going to say, and they let us know.”

The proud father had been aware of Travis’ proposal intentions “months in advance,” anticipating that the Chiefs tight end would pop the question during the upcoming NFL season.
Ed also mentioned that he and Donna spent quality time with the couple after attending the Kansas City premiere of ESPN’s new docuseries The Kingdom on August 24. This six-part series chronicles the early days of Travis and Swift’s relationship.

While Ed confirmed that the engagement took place in a garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, he noted that “no wedding planning” has commenced yet.
Travis and Swift announced their engagement through a joint Instagram post on Tuesday. A series of images captured the moment she accepted his proposal, accompanied by a caption stating, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” This playful reference highlighted Swift’s songwriting prowess alongside Travis’ NFL achievements.

Travis proposed in a rose-filled garden, presenting an emotional Swift with a diamond ring from Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry.
