Twins End Rays' Winning Streak with 4-2 Victory
Kody Clemens launched his fifth home run of the season, watched by his father, Roger Clemens, from the stands, as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 on Tuesday night, effectively ending the Rays' six-game winning streak.
The 29-year-old, son of the legendary seven-time Cy Young Award winner, extended his hitting streak to a career-high eight games with a solo shot off pitcher Taj Bradley in the second inning.
Joe Ryan secured his fourth consecutive win, allowing just one run and five hits over six innings. Jhoan Duran closed out the game, navigating a walk in the ninth to earn his ninth save in ten opportunities, showcasing his speed with six pitches clocked at 100 mph or more.
Carlos Correa contributed significantly with three hits for the Twins, who took an early lead thanks to Brooks Lee's sacrifice fly in the first inning. Lee later added to the score with a run-scoring forceout in the sixth, while Kameron Misner's groundout in the seventh brought another run across.
Bradley, despite his efforts, allowed three runs—two of which were earned—while matching his season high with five hits over seven innings.
The game attracted a crowd of 10,046 at Steinbrenner Field, marking the Rays' 33rd sellout in just 36 games this season. With this loss, Tampa Bay fell back to a .500 record at 27-27 and is now 17-19 at home as they approach the finale of a nine-game homestand.
In a pivotal moment, Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe mishandled Lee's chopper in the sixth inning with runners on first and second, throwing the ball over shortstop Jose Caballero's head for an error that allowed Ryan Jeffers to score.
Ryan's walk to Misner in the second inning marked his tenth in just eleven starts this year. Notably, Twins pitchers have recorded the fewest walks in Major League Baseball this season.
Looking ahead, Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen (3-4, 2.60 ERA) is set to start Wednesday against Twins right-hander Pablo López (4-2, 2.31 ERA), who has impressively limited opponents to two earned runs or fewer in eight of his nine starts this season.
