Twins Surge Past Royals with Late Heroics, Securing 15th Win in 17 Games
In a decisive ninth inning, Ty France launched a two-run homer, propelling the Minnesota Twins to a 3-1 victory against the Kansas City Royals on Friday night. This win marks the Twins' impressive 15th victory in their last 17 games.
With the game tied at 1-1, Carlos Correa, who had just returned from the injured list after passing concussion protocol, reached base on an infield single against Lucas Erceg (1-1). France then connected on a first-pitch slider, sending the ball 403 feet into the left-center bullpen for his fourth home run of the season.
Earlier in the game, Correa made his presence felt by hitting a 429-foot homer in the second inning off Noah Cameron. Fans were treated to a special giveaway, receiving Carlos Correa Jedi bobbleheads as a nod to his return.
Cole Sands (3-1) closed out the game with a flawless ninth inning, securing the win for Minnesota.
For the Royals, Vinnie Pasquantino contributed with two hits, while Cavan Biggio added a double and an RBI. Cameron, making only his third major league start at 25 years old, showcased his talent by allowing just one run and four hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight batters and walking one. His ERA now stands at an impressive 0.93 across 19 2/3 innings.
Pablo López pitched for the Twins, giving up one run and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Biggio's double in the first inning was instrumental in scoring Jonathan India.
In a critical moment during the third inning, with the score tied and two runners on base, López struck out Biggio and retired Drew Waters on a flyout, maintaining the deadlock. The Royals struggled significantly with runners in scoring position, finishing 1 for 10 against López.
Looking ahead, Royals right-hander Michael Wacha (3-4, 2.86) is set to face Twins right-hander Zebby Matthews (0-1, 12.00) in Saturday's matchup.
