Twins Snap Losing Streak with 2-0 Victory Over Mariners

Jun 26 2025

Joe Ryan showcased his pitching prowess on Wednesday night, securing his seventh victory in eight decisions as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Seattle Mariners 2-0, effectively halting a five-game losing streak.

With an impressive line of three hits allowed over six innings, Ryan (8-3) struck out eight batters while issuing no walks. This performance was crucial in helping Minnesota break a six-game home losing streak, their longest at Target Field since 2016. Notably, Ryan has allowed one run or fewer in nine of his 15 starts this season.

Jhoan Duran, reaching speeds of 100 mph, closed the game with three consecutive outs, earning his 11th save in 13 opportunities. He teamed up with Louis Varland and Griffin Jax to deliver a hitless relief effort.

In the sixth inning, Byron Buxton connected for a single off Mariners' pitcher George Kirby (1-4), advanced on a groundout, and later scored on Willi Castro's timely single, marking the go-ahead run.

Kody Clemens added to the Twins' lead with his ninth home run in the seventh inning against Eduard Bazardo, contributing to Minnesota's second win in their last 13 games.

Kirby, despite the loss, pitched effectively, allowing just one run and three hits over six innings.

The Mariners (41-38) entered the game on a three-game winning streak but struggled against Ryan's command. Julio Rodríguez managed an infield hit to start the sixth but was quickly silenced as Ryan struck out home run leader Cal Raleigh and induced a double play from former Twin Jorge Polanco.

Seattle began the day ranked third in the league with 105 home runs, with Raleigh's impressive total of 32 accounting for nearly 30% of that figure. The Mariners had already hit 14 homers during their current 10-game road trip.

Looking ahead, Seattle's Emerson Hancock (3-3, 5.43) and Minnesota's Simeon Woods Richardson (2-4, 5.06) are set to face off in Thursday's series finale.
