David Beckham Calls Knighthood a 'Truly Humbling Honor'

Jun 13 2025

Receiving a knighthood from King Charles III is a moment of profound significance for David Beckham, who described the honor as “a truly humbling experience.”

The 50-year-old soccer icon was recognized in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honors list for his contributions to both sport and charity, a testament to his impact beyond the pitch.

In a statement released on June 13, Beckham expressed his pride in this royal accolade, stating, “Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honor.” He reflected on his career, noting that captaining his country was “the greatest privilege” and a realization of a boyhood dream.

Beckham’s legacy extends beyond his celebrated career as a midfielder for Manchester United and the England national team. His commitment to charitable endeavors has been a significant part of his life. “Off the pitch, I have been fortunate to represent Britain around the world and work with incredible organizations that support communities in need and inspire the next generation,” he added.

He continued, “I’m so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I’m grateful to be recognized for work that gives me so much fulfillment. It will take a little while for the news to sink in but I’m immensely proud, and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family.”

In addition to his sporting achievements and philanthropic efforts, Beckham shares a family life with former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. Together, they have four children: Brooklyn, 26; Romeo, 22; Cruz, 20; and Harper, 13.

With this honor, David will now be addressed as “Sir David Beckham,” while Victoria will take on the title of “Lady Victoria Beckham.”

However, this moment of celebration is overshadowed by reports of family tensions. Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz, 30, are said to be distancing themselves from David and Victoria. A source revealed that they learned about the knighthood through media outlets and have not yet received an invitation to the ceremony.

The family drama escalated earlier this month when Brooklyn and Nicola were notably absent from David’s 50th birthday celebration in London.
