Tigers Roar to Victory: Detroit Dominates Cardinals 5-1

In a thrilling matchup, the Detroit Tigers took down the St. Louis Cardinals with a convincing 5-1 victory on Wednesday. Spencer Torkelson was a standout, racking up two hits, drawing two walks, and driving in a run, helping the Tigers secure their 15th win in the last 20 games. Pretty impressive, right?

Brant Hurter was on fire, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings in his second career start. Chase Lee, making his mark, followed up with two more scoreless innings, snagging his first major league win. The Tigers really showed off their bullpen depth, using six pitchers throughout the game.

On the other side, Andre Pallante (4-3) struggled a bit, giving up three runs, four hits, and four walks in 5 2/3 innings. This marked his first home loss since September 10, 2024, against Cincinnati. Tough break for him.

Willson Contreras managed to get an RBI single in the sixth, scoring Victor Scott II and narrowing Detroit's lead to 3-1. But the Tigers weren’t done yet. They tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning, thanks to Trey Sweeney's sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Javier Báez.

Earlier in the game, Torkelson hit a double that bounced off Jordan Walker's glove, allowing Riley Greene to score and pushing the Tigers ahead 2-0. Pallante walked both Torkelson and Greene before Colt Keith flied out, ending Pallante's day. Dillon Dingler then came through with a single, extending the lead to 3-0.

This loss was a bit of a wake-up call for the Cardinals, as it was their first defeat by more than one run since falling to the New York Mets 9-3 back on May 2.

Looking ahead, the Tigers are set to kick off a seven-game homestand on Thursday night, with RHP Jack Flaherty (2-5, 2.67 ERA) taking on Cleveland's RHP Tanner Bibee (3-4, 4.06). Meanwhile, the Cardinals will see RHP Miles Mikolas (3-2, 3.77 ERA) face off against Arizona's RHP Zac Gallen (3-5, 5.14) in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night.
