White Sox Overcome Rangers, Handing Texas Sixth Straight Loss

May 24 2025

Andrew Benintendi's two-run double ignited a six-run rally in the sixth inning, propelling the Chicago White Sox to a 10-5 victory over the Texas Rangers on Saturday. This win marked the Rangers' sixth consecutive loss, deepening their struggles.

Joshua Palacios contributed significantly with a two-run homer, redeeming himself after a costly error earlier in the game. Mike Tauchman also added to the scoreboard with a home run, while Lenyn Sosa drove in three crucial runs for the White Sox.

Texas managed to score through Adolis García's solo shot, but the team has now lost seven of its last eight games following a season-high six-game winning streak.

Initially trailing 4-2, the White Sox capitalized on defensive lapses from the Rangers during their explosive sixth inning. A collision between Wyatt Langford and Sam Haggerty on Austin Slater's pinch-hit drive resulted in a leadoff triple for Slater. Following this, Chase Meidroth reached base due to an error by third baseman Josh Jung, setting the stage for Tauchman’s slow roller that brought Slater home.

In a moment of miscommunication, Semien failed to tag Meidroth as he advanced to second and subsequently threw late to first base, allowing the inning to continue. Benintendi's pivotal double into the right-field corner shifted the momentum, giving Chicago a 5-4 lead. Sosa then capped off the rally with a three-run double off the left-field wall.

Mike Vasil (3-2) secured the win after pitching three scoreless innings, while Hoby Milner (1-1) took the loss for Texas. Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter struggled with control, issuing a career-high five walks over five innings but limited Chicago to just two runs and six hits.

The Rangers initially took the lead with an RBI double from Josh Smith in the first inning and added two more runs in the fourth. Semien's sacrifice fly and a run scored due to Palacios dropping Haggerty's fly ball contributed to their early advantage.

In the fifth inning, Kyle Higashioka's pinch-hit RBI single extended Texas's lead to 4-2. However, despite having runners on first and second with one out, the Rangers could not capitalize as Heim popped out and García fouled out.

Rookie Meidroth extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a leadoff single in the third inning, finishing the game with one hit and two walks.

Looking ahead, Rangers left-hander Patrick Corbin (3-3, 3.59 ERA) and White Sox right-hander Davis Martin (2-5, 3.49 ERA) are set to face off in Sunday’s series finale.
